By Shane Beardsley of Kirkella Investments: On the 3th February 2019, I will be taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life, by joining 'Team Arctic' to raise money for The Royal British Legion! I will be flying to Sweden before catching a connecting flight North towards the Arctic Circle where I am going to spend 8 days being tested to new limits. As some of you know I am never far away from technology; so 8 days with no electricity, is going to be a reality check to say the least!

After the first couple of days acclimatising to the extreme cold, husky sledding, cross country skiing, and a 60km trek into the forest and up into the mountains; it is onto the interestingly named ‘survival phase’ of the trip. This will involve venturing off into the Wilderness for the remainder of the expedition; learning valuable new skills, constructing and sleeping in snow holes, building shelters, ice fishing and snow shoeing!

I particularly liked number 32 on their ‘Essential Kit List’…… A SENSE OF HUMOUR!

Ahead of the actual trip, I will also be attending a ‘Survival Training’ weekend in Ashclyst Forrest, Exeter at the end of the year to prepare; topics include search and rescue training, night navigation, cold weather injuries, shelter building, safe cutting techniques, water purification and fire lighting. It sounds like useful preparation to me!
